It is an extract taken from the 1930-1947 Album on our Website. 17/04/2010 Mike Comerford writes: Clement Hoyle was a wonderful man, who joined the RAOC in 1935 as a boy soldier at Hilsea Bks. After serving almost 8 years in the RAOC, In Oct 1942 he became a founder member of the REME, but never forgot his roots in our Corps. In fact he re-badged to RAOC on becoming a Chelsea Pensioner (a choice that pensioners have, if they served in more than one Corps or Regiment). He also wrote a book about his military service and life. 'From Schoolboy to Soldier' I met Clem in 2008 when I visited Chelsea, and he gave me a signed copy of his book, which accompanies my collection of books & histories on the RAOC. Rest Easy Clem, and get Dougie Mann a pint for me, we will all meet again one day in the future. 17/04/2010 Bill Chamberlain writes: I had the good fortune to meet Clem, and communicated with him by email and phone, he was a true gentleman. He sent me the draft of Part 2 of his book – (covering his later years in service) - which hopefully is being published and is an excellent read. Goodbye old friend you have served your time well and will be remembered with the highest regard by your friends and colleagues.
