It is heart-warming to hear from them. Also for the entry on the Roll of Honour. Roy, our second child, was born on 4th March 1950. In May that year I flew out to the Gold Coast ( Ghana ) with Megan, two years old, and Roy, to join my husband Eric who was stationed in Accra . So, you see, from a very early age, the children were seasoned travellers. I think that is why, after several years living in rural Norfolk they developed ‘itchy feet’. Megan enlisted in the RAF in 1966 and Roy joined RAOC on 2nd September that year. Certainly Brian Crago was right about Roy being in “B” Company. The Officer in charge was Major Jenkins. Initially he was in Recruit Platoon, then Parsons Platoon until sometime in 1967, Watts Platoon later that year. He sent us a timetable of their days in Recruit Platoon in October 1966! In the same letter he told us that the lads in Room 1111 got together and formed a photography club and sent a copy of one of the first photographs to be developed. It was lovely to hear from John Beck. They were in Tehran when the American Embassy was taken over. Trying times indeed for them and worrying times for their families. Incredibly Roy was able to keep in touch with us by telephone. How I wish we had known John was so near. A contact from the past may have made all the difference. I am attaching a photograph (undated) taken when some of the boys visited Trafalgar Square. (Click this LINK). Roy is the tall one, third from the right, looking very smart. Best wishes.
