I was a 'term' in front of Ray and so was already in Watts Platoon, 'B' Coy when he arrived early in 1965. We eventually became pals, ending up 'senior' members of Watts. Ray got promoted before me and ended up a very good J/CSM & me behind him a J/Sgt. (We were both mentored by that most excellent of men, CSM Maul). After JLB we were posted in different directions and I left the service in 1971. I traced Ray via the JLB site in 2010 (& others) and was delighted to learn of his superb career, ending with the rank of Major. Not bad! I am therefore saddened to learn (only today - 20 Nov 2011) of his passing. RIP old pal.
Tony Burgin (Watts Platoon 1964-67), in November 2011
