He joined the RAOC at Bicester in 1946 as a Boy Soldier. Entering mans service at the age of 18 he saw service at Nesscliffe Ammunition Depot before being posted to GHQ Middle East at FAYID. By trade he was a Technical Clerk (Log Sup Spec) where he developed his skills before joining 5 Base Ordnance Depot at Tel-El-Kabir in Egypt. From there he went to Korea with 10 Infantry Workshops for the duration of the war. By then a Sergeant he volunteered for 16 Para Brigade and the Heavy Drop Company. With the exception of a Trials Establishment posting on Anglesey, he remained committed to Parachuting until joining the Commando Brigade in Singapore. He served in both Malaya and the Peninsular during 'Confrontation' with Indonesia. Subsequently, he served in Antwerp, Celle and HQ Eastern District at Colchester. He retired in 1971, joining the Omani Defence Forces until 1987. He then became a Chelsea Pensioner. He was a respected BOWO, with a fund of expertise which he shared with his sponsoring unit, the Commando Logisitc Regiment. RAOC.gif
