I lived there for 15 years and then retired to the IOW 5 years ago. A man who loved life and I was privileged to spend a few of mine with him. Eric loved the Army and spent all of his working life in or working for the Military. He was a proud member of the RAOC Association, had a chest full of medals as did his Dad an ex Guards RSM who was Commissioned. He had a sense of humour to match the best of us and I spent many a night in the SM in Deepcut and his home The Little Foxes in Frimley listening to his stories. When I first met him he used to tell people I was from Jamaica and I constantly reminded him I was from Trinidad but he always forgot and in his defence used to say Trinidad. Jamaica, all the same the West Indies stop winging. So one day over the garden fence I saw him cutting his lawn and shouted '' Taff '', he switched the mower off and turned and said to me don't be so bloody daft you know I am English not Welch. Yes I replied and I am from Trinidad not Jamaica. We both had a good laugh. His Garage was and still is laid out like a REME Workshop all the tools numbered, boxed, bagged, and laid out as to an inventory hanging on the wall. He would tackle any job and have a go at repairing anything when he was fit enough to do so.Logged all his mileage and carried out his own vehicle repairs. You could write a book about Eric, he was much loved and touched the hearts of all who knew him. RIP old friend.
