Obituary for YOUNG, Edward R. "Ted"

 

Young_ER.jpg -  Edward Ronald (Ted) YOUNG *26 July 1934  - †6 August 2012  22292344 Ted was an RAOC Boy/Sgt in Horne House October 1950 – June 1952    Ted suffered a Stroke in 2006 and had been incapacitated since then moving into a care home in 2011. Ted was an Ex Boy Soldier having joined in October 1950 at Haslar he rose to the rank of B/Sgt before moving on into man’s service, he returned to the school as a permanent staff member and was promoted Cpl. He later went on to serve in East Africa and Malaysia (seconded to the Malay Armed Forces) then with the Stores Section attached to the Army Air Corps. He was commissioned having been promoted from the rank of WO1 (CDR) and eventually retired with rank of Captain.    Ted joined RAOC Boys School October 1950 and became Horne House B/Sgt.  Left the school in June 1952 and returned as a member of the Permanent Staff in 1952, he was Promoted Substantive Cpl and moved to Fort Gomer to control the vermin.    I got to know Ted after we had both retired from service via a mutual contact in the Corps Gazette in 2002. Ted lived in Shrewsbury some 10 miles from my home, having “discovered” each other we visited each others homes and became good friends.Both of us belonged to the Shropshire Branch of the R A O C Association and were able to enjoy some meetings together before it disbanded.
