WILSON extracted from RAOC Gazette entry 198003-307: Lance Corporal Bob Weston died tragically as a result of fire during the early hours of 7th July, 1980. Bob was a well known personality in the Unit particularly he worked with 280 Petroleum Filling Platoon and latterly the 48 AMF(L) Company. During his time in Devizes he saw service both in Gambia and Northern Ireland. Bob was respected and well liked by all who knew him, for his calm approach to life and work. Prior to joining the Unit Bob became an Apprentice in September 1971 and initially qualified as a Supply Specialist. He transferred to the Petroleum trade shortly afterwards and before coming to Devizes he served in the Combat Supplies Battalion in BAOR. Sadness is felt at such a young life being lost in particularly tragic circumstances. Bob was only in his early twenties when he died. His loss will be deeply felt in the Unit and all ranks extend sincere condolences to his family.  Any details, memories or photographs that you may have would be most welcome.
