"Ricky" joined the Army in 1971 as a RAOC Apprentice, and had served at Bicester as a Staff Clerk for only ten months. He quickly adapted to service and, after employment with Battalion HQ and "A" Company, took over as Company Clerk with 46 Shadow Company. He was essentially a very happy person whose sense of humour and easy-going temperament made him popular with all who came into contact with him. Enthusiastic and conscientious, he always took a keen interest in his work. He was a fine sportsman and had captained the Army FA Youth Team during the 1971-72 season. He played football for the Battalion 1st Xl and would undoubtedly have gained Corps recognition.
