Another RAOC brother has left, Bob Hughes was mainly involved with Heavy Drop Air despatch working at JATE (Old Sarum) then later 16 Parachute Heavy Drop Company RAOC based at RAF Hullavington. Bob had been very poorly for some time, COPD, Heart and Diabetes, but he was a fighter, always had a wicked sense of humour, well liked and respected.. Bob was due to attend a Heavy Drop reunion this Friday, where lots of old friends visited Bob at home in Dinton in Salisbury. Thursday all met at Bob's home for a drink /buffet, Friday saw Roger Cole (ex 22 SAS & Heavy Drop) giving a talk & Presentation) on Operation Storm 1972, this was in aid of the Charity BLESMA. The Village Hall in Dinton was packed. Bob's friends all said their farewells Saturday morning at Bob's bedside, Bob was determined despite being ill for some time to meet all his old mates from way back, Bob passed away late Saturday night peacefully in his sleep. Bob hung on in there for some time and got to see good mates till the end. Bob has a facebook profile which is still active, if anyone here remembers Bob please feel free to leave a message on his FB profile, great man AND Boss, thoughts are with Sue and family. R.I.P Bob, we miss you, but will never forget.
