BH013p1.jpg - Bryan Leslie Hopkinson * 23/01/1946 - †01/1990 RAOC Junior Leader: September 1961 – July 1963 The photo shows Bryan as a member of the Junior Leaders Shooting Team - 1962 The death of Bryan at the age of 43, was advised by his widow Jean. Patrick Luck (Lucky) writes: I first met Bryan in 1966 at CVD Marchington Staffs. He was just back from Aden. I liked Bryan from day one and we hit it off as mates from there .He was an ex boy and had that confidence that ex boys have . We worked together on B Depot and he was great to work with, he had a ready wit and enjoyed army life with a relish. We had regular excursions to the local town, Uttoxeter. It was whilst on such a visit that he met Jean. He was a different guy after that. He was so happy and his world was perfect. They were inseperable and complimented each other as a pair. When it came to the inevitable wedding I had the honour of being his best man and they were destined for a great life together. When we parted company ,due to different postings , we promised to keep in touch. We never served together again. After leaving the Army Bryan went on to start a very successful business and earned the respect of all that he came into contact with. I made a point of catching up with Bryan when in his neck of the woods and it was always a pleasure. To see him again was as if we hadn't been apart, just picked up where we left off. I was deeply shocked and saddened when he passed away. His funeral at Uttoxeter was one of the most attended services that the town had seen. A true testament to the love, affection and esteem with which he was held. Bryan was one of life's gentlemen, a truly lovely man and I am honoured to have been one of his many friends.Rest in peace mate.Patrick Luck (Lucky) Any details, memories or photographs that you may have would be most welcome.
