Clement Hoyle was a wonderful man, who joined the RAOC in 1935 as a boy soldier at Hilsea Bks. After serving almost 8 years in the RAOC, In Oct 1942 he became a founder member of the REME, but never forgot his roots in our Corps. In fact he re-badged to RAOC on becoming a Chelsea Pensioner (a choice that pensioners have, if they served in more than one Corps or Regiment). He also wrote a book about his military service and life. 'From Schoolboy to Soldier' I met Clem in 2008 when I visited Chelsea, and he gave me a signed copy of his book, which accompanies my collection of books & histories on the RAOC. Rest Easy Clem, and get Dougie Mann a pint for me, we will all meet again one day in the future.
