PL002p1.jpg - Robert William James (Bill/Geordie) Luke * 20 May 1923 - † 1978 Platoon-Sgt in Parsons house c.1959/60 Geordie Luke was my Sgt in Parsons house whilst l was there 1959/60, he was a top class drill instructor, firm, but very fair, all he asked was that you try your best, and never allow yourself to let the house down intentionally. l last saw him in 1964 at the U/J club in Singapore, when l met up with an old Parson's pal Bob McCusker. l beleive that Sgt Luke passed away over 20 years ago, but l don't know the circumstances relating to his passing. You never realize until later in life what good all that bawling and shouting, and all the bull that was the Junior Leaders did for you, l personally beleive it was for the better, and l think l can thank Gordie Luke amongst others for that. James Michael Mills ( wulfrun) 7th. July 2008 Geordie Luke was my Platoon Sergeant in Recruit Platoon in Sep-Dec 1961. He was an excellent man, a veteran of Arnhem and superb soldier. He was fair to a fault and did his job of shaping us young lads with proper values and standards. His favourite utterance, shouted at the top of his voice at reveille was "Hands off cocks, hands on socks" ! He was a funny guy but he could give you the most withering of looks if you upset him, I think he employed quite a lot of kidology. He certainly was an excellent role model and I for one have very fond memories of him. R.I.P. Geordie. John Tonks 19th.
